The new Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada (PDF) reflect the broad range of skills and abilities required of all occupational therapists in Canada at every stage of their career. They also serve to guide various profession quality assurance processes such as provincial regulatory activities, accreditation of educational programs, entry-level examinations, and continuing professional development.
For BC Occupational Therapists
It may not be possible or necessary to apply all competencies in specific practice contexts or with certain types of clients. The competencies must be applied and interpreted considering the requirements of the practice context and the client’s particular situation. If a competency or indicator is not applicable in a particular situation, a reasonable explanation should be available.

1. Complete the learning module available in your QAP Portal. It’s a long module so consider breaking it up, doing one competency domain at a time, and / or discussing the cases with other OTs. This is a practice resource and not a requirement of the QA Program.
2. Watch for other events and resources being planned by the COTBC Competency Champions.
