Competencies

BC occupational therapists are expected to meet the new Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada (PDF). The competencies reflect the broad range of skills and abilities required of occupational therapists in Canada throughout their careers.

Three national organizations collaborated to create the new Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada:

  • Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy Regulatory Organizations
  • Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy University Programs
  • Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists

The new document provides context for occupational therapy practice in Canada, the background to the competencies, why and how they were developed, how to use them, and the competencies themselves.
