How to Register for cOnnecT Day

cOnnecT Day takes place on November 5, 2022. Plan to join us for a day of learning, reflecting, and connecting. This year, speakers discuss the importance of delivering anti-racist culturally safe care.

Highlights include:

Harmony Johnson, vice president of Indigenous Wellness & Reconciliation at Providence Health Care, joins us to reflect on the In Plain Sight report and its calls to action to improve equity in health care. She will help us to consider the implications for OTs by building a practical understanding of what Indigenous specific racism is, how it has been woven into health care in BC, and what we can do to make changes in our practice.

UBC–OSOT Professor and Department Head Sue Forwell will share an update on the exciting expansion of the occupational therapy program at UBC’s Faculty of Medicine and their efforts on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Staffing Announcement: Deputy Registrar Leaving for New Opportunity

Andrea Bowden is leaving the College executive team on July 23, 2022 to take on a new opportunity.

Andrea joined the College in November 2014, seconded from Island Health Authority to develop the College’s practice advisory services. In August 2017, Andrea accepted a permanent position as the Director, Policy and Practice and moved onto the Deputy Registrar role in March 2019. In her various roles with the College, Andrea was dedicated to service excellence and was key to the successful development of our practice advisory services and transition to a new standards framework. Andrea also capably represented the College on several collaborative projects with our regulator colleagues and external partners.

We will all miss Andrea’s warmth and energy, her attention to supporting a positive team culture and her contributions as a respected and caring member of the COTBC team.

On behalf of the COTBC, we wish Andrea all the best!

On February 9, 2022, Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that she will issue a new public health order requiring regulated health professionals to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by March 24, 2022.

We understand the new order is still being finalized by the PHO. More information will be provided once the order is released by the PHO and the College assesses any specific actions required by the College and registrants.
